Местоимения many и much употребляются, как правило, в вопросительных и отрицательных предложениях, а также, если они определяют под лежащее или же имеют перед собой определение, выраженное такими словами, как very - очень, so - так, too - слишком.
В утвердительных предложениях вместо many и much употребляются
little milk
мало молока (недостаточно)
few books мало книг (недостаточно)
I know little about Toronto. Я знаю мало о Торонто, (недостаточно)
a few books
несколько (немного) книг (достаточно)
a little milk
немного молока (достаточно)
I know a little about London. Я немного (кое-что) знаю о Лондоне.
Упражнение 5. Заполните пропуски, употребляя much, many, a lot of.

MY FAMILY
Let me introduce myself. I’m Fiona Campbell. I’m 16 and I go to a local school.
My parents have a farm and it is a very interesting place. There are animals on it, sheep and cows, horses and pigs.
I’m very fond of the farm and we are lucky to have it, but there is a lot of work to do on it.
There are three children in the family.
Jimmy is 26. He has a family of his own. And he has his own farm, jimmy has a wife and two children: a son and a daughter.
My young sister Jean is only eleven. She is a lovely little girl with golden hair and dark blue eyes and a spirit that is always bright and happy. She isn’t fond of study of any kind, but she loves animals and helps my parents to feed them.
My father is proud of Jimmy; and Jean is the apple of his eye1.
My parents are hard-working people. They are strong both in body and character. The parents never complain though they work on the form from morning till night. My father doesn’t have much spare time but he always finds time for reading.
I like evenings. We have supper at 8. Then we sit near the fire talking or listening to my father’s stories. And when the wind is blowing2 through the trees outside and the rain beating3 on the windows, our warm fire seems cheerful - and I often think that these quiet evenings are the best evenings of all4.
